Ingredients
- 1 cup dried apples(rinsed)
- 1 cup dried prunes(pitted, rinsed)
- 1/2 cup dried pears(optional, rinsed)
- 2 5/8 qt water
- 3 tbsp honey(or to taste)
- 1 pc cinnamon stick
- 3 pcs cloves
- 3 tbsp lemon balm(fresh or dried)
Instructions
Making Uzvar
- In a large pot, combine the rinsed dried apples, prunes, and pears (if using) with 2.5 liters of water.
- Add the cinnamon stick and cloves to the pot.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for at least 60 minutes, or until the fruits are tender.
- Remove the pot from the heat. Stir in the honey until dissolved. Add the lemon balm.
- Let the uzvar steep for another 10-15 minutes with the lid on.
- Strain the uzvar through a fine-mesh sieve, discarding the solids. Allow it to cool completely.
