Ingredients
- 1lb maultaschen(store-bought or homemade)
- 2 pcs onions(large, thinly sliced)
- 4 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp bread crumbs(plain or panko)
- 2 tbsp parsley(fresh, chopped)
- salt(to taste)
- black pepper(freshly ground, to taste)
Instructions
Caramelize Onions
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat.
- Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for 20-25 minutes, or until the onions are very soft, deeply golden brown, and caramelized.
- Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside in a bowl.
Pan-Fry Maultaschen
- If your maultaschen are frozen, allow them to thaw slightly according to package directions. If they are fresh, you can proceed directly.
- Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the same skillet used for the onions, over medium heat.
- Once the butter is melted and shimmering, add the maultaschen in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
- Pan-fry the maultaschen for 4-6 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and slightly crispy.
Combine and Serve
- Return the caramelized onions to the skillet with the fried maultaschen.
- Add the bread crumbs and chopped parsley. Gently toss everything together until the maultaschen are coated and the bread crumbs are lightly toasted, about 1-2 minutes.
- Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
- Serve immediately.

Tips
- For the best caramelization, slice the onions thinly and cook them over low to medium-low heat for an extended period.
- Ensure the skillet is adequately hot before adding the maultaschen to achieve a nice golden-brown crust without them becoming mushy.
- Serve hot, perhaps with a side of potato salad or a simple green salad for a complete meal.
