Ingredients
Mustard-Crusted Bratwurst
- 4 pcs bratwurst(Good quality German bratwurst)
- 1/2 cup whole grain mustard
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs(Panko or regular)
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley(chopped, for the crust)
- 1/2 tsp salt(to taste)
- 1/4 tsp black pepper(freshly ground, to taste)
Sauerkraut Salad
- 1lb sauerkraut(rinsed and well-drained)
- 1/2 pcs apple(cored and finely diced (e.g., Granny Smith))
- 1/4 cup red onion(finely diced)
- 3 tbsp fresh dill(chopped)
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp olive oil(extra virgin)
- 1 tsp sugar(optional, to balance acidity)
- 1/4 tsp salt(to taste)
- 1/8 tsp black pepper(freshly ground, to taste)
Instructions
Prepare the Bratwurst
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, combine the whole grain mustard, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Place the bratwurst on the prepared baking sheet. Spread the mustard mixture evenly over the bratwurst.
- Sprinkle the bread crumbs over the mustard coating, pressing gently to adhere.
Bake the Bratwurst
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the bratwurst is cooked through and the crust is golden brown and slightly crispy. Turn halfway through for even browning.
Make the Sauerkraut Salad
- While the bratwurst is baking, prepare the sauerkraut salad. In a medium bowl, combine the rinsed and drained sauerkraut, diced apple, red onion, and chopped dill.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together the apple cider vinegar, olive oil, and sugar (if using).
- Pour the dressing over the sauerkraut mixture. Toss gently to combine.
- Season the sauerkraut salad with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve
- Serve the mustard-crusted bratwurst warm alongside the fresh sauerkraut salad.

Tips
- For an extra crispy crust, toast the bread crumbs lightly before applying them to the bratwurst.
- Ensure the oven temperature is accurate to achieve perfectly golden-brown bratwurst without burning the crust.
- Allow the sauerkraut salad to sit for at least 10 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld.
