Instructions
Prepare Coffee Soak
- 1In a shallow dish, whisk together the cooled espresso, sugar, and liqueur (if using) until the sugar is dissolved.
Make Mascarpone Cream
- 1In a medium bowl, whisk together the softened mascarpone cheese and egg yolks until smooth.
- 2In a separate bowl, whip the cold heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- 3Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined and no streaks remain. Be careful not to overmix.
Assemble Tiramisu
- 1Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring it's coated but not soggy. Arrange the dipped ladyfingers in a single layer in the bottom of an 8x8 inch baking dish.
- 2Spread half of the mascarpone cream evenly over the ladyfingers.
- 3Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone cream.
- 4Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the tiramisu to set.
- 5Before serving, dust the top generously with unsweetened cocoa powder.

Tips
- Ensure your mascarpone and eggs are at room temperature for a smoother cream.
- For best results, let the tiramisu chill overnight for flavors to fully develop.
- Don't oversoak the ladyfingers; a quick dip is all that's needed.
