Ingredients
- 1/2 cup brown mustard seeds(finely ground)
- 1/2 cup dry white wine(such as Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc)
- 2 tbsp white wine vinegar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp water
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder(for color, optional)
Instructions
Preperation
- Place the finely ground brown mustard seeds in a small bowl. If using whole seeds, grind them to a fine powder in a spice grinder first.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the dry white wine and white wine vinegar.
Making the Mustard
- Pour the liquid mixture over the ground mustard seeds. Add the salt and turmeric powder (if using).
- Stir well to combine all ingredients, ensuring there are no dry pockets of mustard seed powder.
- Transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor. Add the water.
- Blend on high speed until the mustard reaches a smooth, creamy consistency. If it's too thick, add a little more water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until desired consistency is achieved.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. You might want a pinch more salt or a tad more vinegar for tang.
Storage
- Transfer the freshly made Dijon mustard to an airtight jar or container.
- Refrigerate for at least 24 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld and develop fully. The mustard will thicken slightly as it chills.
