Ingredients
Cake
- 1lb chocolate cake(crumbled)
Filling
- 2 cup whipped cream(sweetened)
- 1 cup cherries(pitted and halved, fresh or frozen (thawed))
- 2 tbsp kirsch(optional, for extra flavor)
- 1/4 cup cherry juice or syrup(from canned cherries or fresh juice)
Garnish
- 1/2 cup chocolate shavings(dark or milk chocolate)
- 6 pcs maraschino cherries(for topping, optional)
Instructions
Prepare the Trifles
- In a small bowl, gently toss the crumbled chocolate cake with the kirsch (if using) and cherry juice or syrup until lightly moistened. Be careful not to make it soggy.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with a little sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. If not using pre-sweetened whipped cream, add sweetener to taste.
- Arrange the trifles in 6 individual parfait glasses, wine glasses, or small jars.
- Start with a layer of moistened chocolate cake crumbs at the bottom of each glass.
- Add a layer of whipped cream over the cake crumbs.
- Spoon a layer of cherries over the whipped cream.
- Repeat the layers – cake, cream, cherries – until the glasses are almost full, ending with a layer of whipped cream.
Garnish and Serve
- Sprinkle the top of each trifle generously with chocolate shavings.
- If desired, top each trifle with a maraschino cherry.
- Chill the trifles for at least 15-30 minutes before serving for the best flavor and texture.

Tips
- For ease, use store-bought devil's food cake or chocolate pound cake. Ensure it's slightly dry to absorb liquid well.
- If you don't have kirsch, you can substitute with a cherry liqueur or simply omit it for a non-alcoholic version.
- Display these elegant trifles in clear glasses to showcase the beautiful layers of cake, cream, and cherries.
