Ingredients

French Toast Bake

  • 6 pcs stale croissants(medium-sized, day-old, torn into large pieces)
  • 4 pcs large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter(melted, for greasing)

Almond Topping & Glaze

  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk(or water)
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract

Instructions

Prepare the Bake

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  2. Arrange the torn croissant pieces evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, granulated sugar, almond extract, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the croissants, ensuring all pieces are thoroughly soaked. Gently press down on the croissants if needed to help them absorb the liquid. Let sit for 5-10 minutes.

Bake and Finish

  1. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean.
  2. While the bake is still warm, prepare the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk (or water), and almond extract until smooth.
  3. Drizzle the almond glaze generously over the warm French toast bake. Sprinkle with slivered almonds.
  4. Serve warm and enjoy!

Tips

  • Ensure croissants are stale to prevent mushiness; day-old works best.
  • For extra crispiness, broil for the last minute, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  • This bake is excellent served with fresh berries or a dollop of whipped cream.
